Joe worked in the bakery section of Clemens - a department that prepares everything fresh in the morning, and puts out all products and orders by early afternoon.  Those bakery workers who worked the afternoon found themselves cleaning up everything left by the morning team.

 

The bakery workers who were unfortunate enough to be scheduled the night shift (such as Joe) were often left with nothing to do but twiddle their thumbs and write names on the occaisional cake (which, I assure you, wasn't very often).  Joe never saw much a point to coming in and sitting around doing nothing, so if he saw that his workload was a little light, he would just excuse himself from his duties and go home.

 

Management wasn't exactly thrilled with Joe's perceived ability to alter his own schedule, so Joe didn't last very long as a member of Clemens Family Markets.
