Long before there was a Manti Te'o to make it all public knowledge, 'catfishing' was a huge problem back then that no one ever realized.  Most of my friends (and myself included) dabbled in the 'online relationship' during our early high school years as we chatted with eligible "women" via AIM and ICQ (holy shit, remember ICQ?!).

Of course, none of us were crazy enough to attempt meeting our online flames, and it's probably for the best, because who knows whether or not they were indeed whom they claimed to be, or if they were really just a middle-aged man whom would later appear on 'To Catch A Predator'.

Despite all this, internet dating has really become an accepted norm, so much so that the number of my married friends who have met online are starting to equal those who met through traditional means.
